youtu.be/dEFkPe7RrQESo again, I put this hack out there with some caution, as many subwoofers, due to the response curve, will sound boomy if you run the crossover too high. Trust your ears above all else.
The ported subwoofers from SVS are extremely easy to integrate, allowing me to run the crossover as high as I want without major concern. Again, I would prioritize dual subs over a single larger subwoofer. I would split your budget to get matching duals.
Learning Room EQ Wizard (free software) is involved, with a good sized learning curve, but I think the juice is worth the squeeze. It's a good idea to use a properly calibrated microphone like the one I use, the MiniDSP UMIK-1:
